Leo the Lion was a sad attempt to make a sequel to the classic 'Kimba, The White Lion' series of the 60's. Supposedly, Leo is the son of Kimba, but for some reason randomly swaps between being a cub and a full-grown lion with a mate Leai... I doubt this sad pile was very popular in Japan, let alone here where my first encounter with the offender was on a $1 video clerance rack. Apparantly Palm Beach Entertainment decided to try and cash in on the contraversy in 1994 when it was revealed that Disney's "The Lion King" was an almost complete plagerism of "Kimba..." and purchased the US distro rights. They must have blown the whole budget on the rights and bulk-erased ex-porn tapes for recording, because the theme music (if you care to call it that) is a horrid little keyboard diddy, with vocals by employee's children it sounds like. Series biopsy taken from the case: Leo the Lion was originally aired on television in the mid-eighties. This series follows the story of Kimba the White Lion, as the next generation of mighty lions continues their jungle adventures. |
